Folsom police are investigating an accident that took the lives of two young adults Thursday night. The crash occurred when a car crossed the centerline and collided with the motorcyle the victims were riding.
According to police, the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. when a BMW driven by a 54-year-old man began to drift off the roadway near the intersection of Briggs Ranch Road and East Natoma Blvd. The man overcorrected, crossing the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic and colliding with the motorcycle.
Killed in the crash were 20-year-old Jordan Tyler Barkey of Rancho Cordova and Carlene Baker of Cameron Park, also 20. Barkey was pronounced dead at the scene, while Baker was transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Both Barkey and Baker were both active in local motorcycle clubs and interested in motorcycle racing.
Police say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, and are looking into the possibility that the BMW driver was involved in street race when the accident occurred.
